Last Breath

For long ago,
The winds blew high,
The soft sounds of his breath
As he uttered his last words,
To his dear lover
“I love you”,
and the breath was gone
His being ceased,
his body grew cold,
but the warmth of his heart
forever remained,
His lover and children
his friends at his side,
they each said good-bye
for the very last time.
